National Day celebrations continue at Darb Al Saai


Darb Al Saai focuses on heritage and nationalism in its third day of celebrations.
National day festivities continued for the third day in a row in the State of Qatar. The wide variety of activities and participants enriched this cultural event.

The governmental entities and various institutions have continued their activities at Darb Al Saai celebrating the National Day of Qatar.

DCMF team visited Qatar Foundation’s activities hub where Alya AlSuwaidi, the Media Relations Officer of Qatar Foundation, gave the team a tour of the place and explained how QF’s participation in Darb Al Saai this year helps develop the spirit of patriotism and belonging towards the country.

Alya AlSuwaidi said “all our achievements are for our nation, whatever we do, we do it for Qatar, to raise Qatar through education, science and development. Patriotism happens when you do something for your country, everyone has the ability to say I love my country, we can all say that, but it’s really about what you are doing for Qatar that shows your love to it.”

She also stated that the theme of their hub is based on the Qatari flag, which is maroon and white. The main focus was on Qatar Foundation’s achievements during the past 21 years. In addition to motivational stories from students and employees from QF about how they succeeded.

There is a wide variety of activities that each university at Qatar Foundation has performed, which helped everyone get involved in science and education. For example Northwestern University have a mock news room where people, including children, can sit at a news desk and read a script from the teleprompter while being filmed so they can re-watch their performance.  The script that appears on the screen is about Qatar and Darb Al Saai and they can choose their preferred language between Arabic and English.

Carnegie Melon University and Texas A&M University mainly focused on robots and programming activities where children had the ability to explore robots and create their own computer games with simple codes. The inventions of Stars of Science where all available for everyone to see and read about. This really does show people how a simple idea can turn into a great invention, and really motivate people.

Finally, Alya AlSuwaidi described to the team an award launched by her Highness Sheikha Moza Al Missned , in order to help young people improve their morals, which is named the ‘Akhlaquna’ award. Anyone can be nominated for this award as long as they carry any of the following traits: mercy, tolerance, honesty and generosity.

 

 

 

 

 

National day festivities continued for the third day in a row in the State of Qatar. The wide variety of activities and participants enriched this cultural event.

Events ranged from entertainment centric events to culturally focused events, additionally, some events were organized specifically for children. These events were organized by various government entities and local institutions. These events raise the sense of social responsibility amongst people for them to give Qatar their very best in all aspects.

The audience gathers in Darb Al Saai’s yard daily to watch the raising of the Qatari flag. The audience also gets to see a walk of various horses and camels. Many classic and modern cars are on display, some of which are old traffic patrol vehicles. Motorcycles are also included in the display, as is a model of the Qatari metro railway system. Many other festivities are available.

This year, the police college has participated with an activity, which is a painting titled: “contribute, express and color” which is an attempt to break the Guinness World Record for “most contributions to a painting by numbers.” This painting is dedicated to his Highness Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al-Thani Emir of Qatar.

In a statement to Doha Centre for Media Freedom, spokesman for the police academy in Darb Al Saai, Rashid Al-Tamimi, said that the aim of the college’s activities is to achieve loyalty and educate the younger generations.

He also added that the painting is a true expression of the Qatari society, which is united in times of crisis, in addition to that the college has accepted the conditions that Guinness have set and the number of people participating in this painting has to be 14000 to break the world record.

Al-Tamimi also explained the various events and festivities in Darb Al Saai that are targeting children and school students. These events are organized with the goal of helping young ones understand the job all the branches in the Qatari police force perform to protect citizens and ensure their safety, while maintaining public safety. 

 

The governmental entities and various institutions have continued their activities at Darb Al Saai celebrating the National Day of Qatar, where they delivered their message to the visitors, especially students and educational institutions.

The activities of the governmental entities and institutions in the ranged from entertainment, to culture and heritage. Additionally, there were activities that were organized to specifically target children. These events raise the sense of social responsibility amongst people for them to give Qatar their very best in all aspects.

The Doha Centre for Media Freedom has continued covering these activities and conducting interviews with the participating parties and diversifying the coverage of the events through the junior reporters.

The Centre’s journalists stopped at a number of participating tents, including the General Administration of Traffic tent. Their aim was to reach as many people as possible regardless of age with their activities. With that in mind, many different activities were organized and panned for.

Eid Al-Hajri, spokesperson for the General Directorate of Traffic, was quoted saying “the diversity of the activities was the major feature of Darb Al Saai this year. The activities at the Traffic tent offer traffic awareness to different age groups from children all the way to adults.”

The General Directorate of Traffic focuses on bringing children closer to the laws that protect their future and safety by providing live field lessons.

People are still participating in the painting happening at the Police College, “The dignity” image that is aimed to break the Guinness world record, at 14,000 signing, which has now reached more than 6000 signatures.

It is expected that the “Path of Friendship” will take place on Saturday for the first time in Darb Al Saai in front of a larger audience at the various events. Many ambassadors and diplomats at the State of Qatar will be attending the event.
