This annual report analyses the violations related to freedom of expression documented by the National Union of Somalia Journalists (NUSOJ) from January 2017 up to December 2017, including killings, beatings, harassment, arbitrary arrests and illegal detention, lack of due process of fair trial guarantees, and closure of media outlets.  The first chapter of the annual report underlines the issue of impunity in Somalia in addition to providing the biggest cases of murder, arbitrary arrests, harassment, intimidation and threats against media professionals, which have been documented by NUSOJ in 2017.
