40-years-old Mexican journalist Rodrigo Acuña is in serious condition after being shot when returning home by two armed individuals on the night of November 23 in Mexico.
Acuña is the director of news site “Diario de Tepetzintla” and collaborator of the online newspaper “La Voz de Tantocuya”. He covers crime cases in Veracruz, reported El Sol de México.
When he was attacked, the journalist was returning home with his one-year-old son, who was unharmed, Reporters Without Borders published.
The attack severely damaged the journalist’s lung. He underwent surgery for more than three hours. During the operation, a kidney was removed and the liver was reconstructed, reported La Jornada de Veracruz.
“We call for a rapid and impartial investigation into this murder attempt and we ask the Veracruz authorities to guarantee the safety of this journalist and his family,” said Emmanuel Colombié, the head of RSF’s Latin America bureau.
