The Doha Centre for Media Freedom conducted on Thursday a second trip for schoolchildren to visit Qatar News Agency (QNA) and to meet some of the organisation’s senior officials.
Twelve students from Al Ahnaf Bin Qais and Ali Bin Abi Taleb Preparatory Independent schools for boys participated in the visit, which was organised as part of DCMF's media literacy programme.
The students met with many of the agency's senior staff, including head of the media relations department, Ibrahim al Obaidly and director of news department, Abdulla Rahman Almzaffar.
Head of Arabic Desk, Hassan Ahmed Fakhroo, explained how news is gathered, translated and sent to newswires.
Students learnt about how the agency works in terms of broadcasting, editing and production. They also got an insight into the importance of social media, discussing the impact of Facebook, Twitter and other online platforms on delivering news.
The participating schools were also presented with a memento by the assistant director of media relations, Sheikh Ahmad bin Faisal al-Thani.
Head of DCMF's media literacy programme, Rania Khaled al-Hussaini stated: “I am thrilled that we have managed to cooperate with such a well respected institution like QNA.”
“The collaboration is for students in Qatar to enhance their understanding of the media through the media literacy programme at DCMF. Media Literacy is a programme for students and young people interested in Media " she said, adding “cooperating with QNA is an honour for all the staff at DCMF.”
