A Mexican journalist who was found dead on Monday morning was killed following an argument with his stepson, and not because of his work, according to a state prosecutor.

Ramon Abel Lopez Aguilar, photojournalist and director of the website, www.tijuanainformativo.info, was reportedly kidnapped before his body was found in the early hours of Monday morning.

However, according to officials, the death was not related to his work as a journalist and was the result of a family feud.

Raul Vazquez, Aguilar’s 22-year-old stepson “confessed to having shot the victim, hitting him twice,” explained the Baja California state prosecutor, Rommel Moreno.

After reporting that his stepfather had been assaulted by armed gunmen, it has emerged that Vazquez was the perpretator of the crime.  He claimed that Aguilar had woken from a sleep and begun to act aggressively, pulling out his gun during the altercation.  Vazquez said that he had shot his stepfather in self-defence.

Authorities had initially questioned whether the death had anything to do with Aguilar’s work, and the latest developments have proven their doubts to be accurate.
