Doha Centre for Media Freedom (DCMF) is saddened to learn about the death of colleague Ali Abu-Afash from Gaza Centre for Media Freedom, the sister organisation of DCMF, who was killed by an Israeli missile in Gaza on Wednesday.

Afash, translator and journalist at Gaza Centre for Media Freedom, was killed along with Associated Press agency journalist Simone Camilli, as Palestinian experts were dismantling an Israeli missile.

According to medics and health officials, five people were killed in the explosion and several others were wounded.

Spokesperson from the health ministry, Asharaf Al-Qudrah, told DCMF that the injured are being treated at Kamal Udwan hospital.

“DCMF condemns the killing of Afash and Camilli and conveys condolences to the families of both journalists.

Afash has been instrumental in strengthening ties between DCMF and Gaza Centre for Media Freedom and has worked tirelessly to shed light on the plight of journalists working in Gaza.”
