A Brazilian sports journalist was shot to death in the state of Goiás by an unidentified attacker as he was returning home from work.

Valério Luiz de Oliveira, 49, was leaving the radio station when he noticed an individual on a motorcycle waiting for him. Luiz tried to escape on seeing the man but was unsuccessful. Police officials explained that the attacker shot him six times, and by the time the ambulance arrived, Luiz was dead.

According to witnesses, Luiz had received threats for his reporting on the local Goiá football club and the team's fans.

According to DCMF, Luiz is the seventh journalist to be killed in Brazil this year.  The other six journalists to have been killed in Brazil are:
